Surprise surprise, San Francisco

Ever since the direct flights to San Francisco has been added back into our list of ultra-long hauls, I've been curious to find out how it would be like to be trapped in a metal tube for 17 hours straight, something I've certainly never done before. Although I never thought my first flight to SFO would go a little like this.

It's funny how my standby call-up stories will never be short of entertaining, especially the past few ones.

The greatest surprise I've ever received from control centre is a brilliant wake-up call at 5am, informing me that I will have to report for a flight to San Francisco at 7.25am that morning. That leaves me exactly two hours and twenty five minutes to get my shit together, pack for a long haul (where I basically threw everything I need into my cargo bag, no time to think), shower and get my make-up and hair done, write my flight details and crew list, paint my nails (which I skilfully did in the middle of the ride to the airport) and report for duty.

I honestly thought that would be impossible to accomplish, but damn, I actually made it.

It's always those times when you are pretty sure you're only going to get called up for a short turnaround, are the times that you get the shock of your life and end up at the other side of the world.

But can I say it's a pretty good call-up? It sure as hell was.

First brunch in SFO at Mama's, of course!
Where there is food on the table, there's always happiness (damn right)

The thing about a direct SFO flight is that we have a total of three clear days in there station and that means, a lot of free time for the crew. So on the first clear day, we decided to do a little bit of sightseeing and what better touristy way to show the world that you're in San Francisco than to visit the Golden Gate bridge?

We wanted to head over to this place called Kirby Cove at the other side of the bridge. It's about a 20 minutes hike down from the top of Sausalito where our uber driver dropped us off. Although it seemed like a warm, sunny day judging by the blue skies, it really was quite chilly where we were at.

And I gotta say, never underestimate hikes in other parts of the world besides Singapore. And never wear heeled boots if you know you're going for a hike. Lessons that I've learnt the hard way.

However, I really did enjoy the hike down to Kirby Cove although the hike back up to where the main road was pretty challenging. Our goal was to get to the area by the side of the beach where the famous swing was at, and when we found it, we were ecstatic. The things we're willing to go through #ForTheGram.

Gorgeous view from right on top of Battery Spencer.

And a photoshoot begins the minute we found the swing, overlooking the beautiful view of the Golden Gate bridge.

 THAT. VIEW.

Mr Holmes Bakehouse - where people only visit for the aesthetics of that very insta-worthy wall behind me.

The second and third clear day were spent on doing all shopping I needed to do for the trip. I finally found my Mario Badescu rosewater mist which I've been eyeing on for the longest time and the Josie Maran argan oil that I've read so much about. Using the product now and I've got to say that I love it so much? My skin is dry, and this product keeps my skin hydrated and smooth- in other words, it's magic.

The flight back home was exactly 16 hours and 10 mins back and it's probably the most tiring flight I've ever done in a while. But I'm happy, happy that I've finally got a taste of how it's like to operate an ultra-long haul. I've always loved doing states flight, even though it really messes up my body clock big time. It sure was a surprise, but I'm glad that my first direct SFO flight was less of a nightmare than I've heard from other crew.

Alright guys, it's almost 3am here now. Guess it's time to get some sleep.

Have a good weekend, and be well!

Love,
Ashhy
