Saturday calls for a picnic date!

I've always been the type of girl who prefers picnics over a night out at town. Never been a big fan of crowds and loud places. Luke and I initially wanted to plan a picnic for our 3rd Anniversary this coming July, but it's the month of Ramadhan now and we have to fast, so a picnic is out of the question. So... we decided to have a picnic earlier instead! It was kinda impromptu though, but as always, impromptu plans are the best.

For some reason, I was a little too enthusiastic with the picnic this time and decided to prepare most of the menu instead of buying them. Being new to the kitchen, of course I had lots of help from my amazing mummy.

It was my first time making stuffed croissants and I had no idea how to, so I relied a lot on intuition and prayed that it'll turn out fine. I just thought of it like I'm making normal sandwiches. For the filling, I decided on chicken because Luke and I are chicken-lovers! We love chicken. Instead of buying the frozen type, I decided to get some raw boneless chicken and marinate it myself.

The outcome was soooo goooooood. I drenched the chicken with black pepper and chilli paste and it's so perfect. And Luke loved it so much he ate three out of the four croissants I brought and it's nice to see him enjoying something that I made. I was so happy!

The rest of our menu for the picnic consisted of my infamous egg mayo sandwiches, my mum's mee goreng, Subway cookies and oranges. I think it doesn't really matter what you bring for the picnic as long as there's a good balance between savoury and sweet, it should be great for your tummy.

Took this while preparing for the picnic! It's so pretty I couldn't resist snapping a pic

Spent the rest of our afternoon at Botanic Gardens, I think it's one of the best places for picnics because it's convenient. So easy to get there and there's lots of shady spots for a picnic. I think that's so important especially when Singapore's weather is crazy humid these days.

Luke and I love picnics because we enjoy cheap dates. There's so many things you can do without burning a hole in your pocket! The most important thing is to enjoy your leisure time with the people you love as time is the greatest luxury.

Yesterday's picnic is my idea of a perfect Saturday with my loved one. To many more lovely dates to come. And talking about dates, it's pretty surreal how Luke and I will be turning 3 this 16th of July. We're 3 years old, and still going strong, and I pray that no matter how rocky the road may get, Luke will still be the one for me at the end of the day.
